“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it” (Matthew 7:13-14). Wide roads are paved and well-traveled by many. These roads are smooth and easy to access. There are always signs and warnings where needed. The narrow path is not paved, it has a dirt bottom with stumps and rocks along the way. I picture a path through the woods where you may have to hold the limbs out of your way to pass through. You often trip on a root and easily stumble or fall. It is not the path of choice for most people. Why would you travel a dirt path when an easy path is optional. Jesus tells us the narrow road leads to life. He chose a life not popular and definitely not easy. He chose to live and die a horrible death in order to show us the path we must travel. This path is still made of dirt with bulging roots and moving rocks. We must watch our every step and look for stickers and snags along the way. At the end of this miserable walking path is Heaven and the arms of Jesus welcoming us home. Take the time to walk carefully along the narrow way, it will be well worth it.
