Put Blinders On

Walk by faith

I’ve often wished that I could un-see something. Things from childhood that should have never been seen become scars in the memory. As a parent, I have tried to protect my boys’ eyes from sights that would dwell and grow in the mind to the point of obsessions. The majority of prisoners have a mind full of sights and sounds that no child should experience. Those evil seeds grow and bloom into criminal acts and mental diseases. I’m speaking of drug/alcohol abuse, child abuse, pornography, murder, theft and general deception.

Without sight, your mind would create the images. It wouldn’t know the images that torture criminals and everyone with sight. I also believe without God, these images would be more difficult to ignore. The Holy Spirit fills your mind and heart with pure thoughts and reading the Bible gives positive images that take the place of the evil we experience just from public television.

There are so many beautiful things to see in this world. It would be ashamed not to see the beauty of God’s creation. But poet Fannie Crosby whom was blind since three years old describes it best:

“It seemed intended by the blessed providence of God that I should be blind all my life, and I thank him for the dispensation. If perfect earthly sight were offered me tomorrow I would not accept it. I might not have sung hymns to the praise of God if I had been distracted by the beautiful and interesting things about me.”[33] Crosby also once said, “when I get to heaven, the first face that shall ever gladden my sight will be that of my Savior”.[34] When asked about her blindness, Crosby was reported as saying that “had it not been for her affliction she might not have so good an education or have so great an influence, and certainly not so fine a memory”.[35] ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fanny_Crosby#Popular_songs )
