A popular trend over the past several years is walking dead, vampires, zombies and ghosts. There have been many books, movies, shows and talk about this. This trend affects the culture in every way. Commercials, posters, and costumes become a way to gain favor and sell merchandise. Historians and theologians have always been fascinated by life after death. The trend of zombies is fascinating in the fact that there are so many people walking around “dead”. These people are lost without Christ, they refused the truth, they denied Jesus and they choose to live by their own selfish, self-centered, self-absorbed rules. 2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us “if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” Once you are a new creation, you are able to see those walking dead all around you. We are to treat these folks gently, with compassion and mercy. We are to be examples of life to them so they see we are different and want a new life themselves.
By becoming a new creation, we “put to death, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry (Colossians 3:5). “But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator” (Colossians 3:8-10). Look out for those walking dead and encourage them to consider a new life in Christ.
