When Adam and Eve were created, they were clothed with God’s spirit. They were unaware of their nakedness until sin entered their lives and they immediately felt shame, guilt and wanted to hide. Human nature clothes us with negative emotions. We put on burdens every morning, with layers of guilt, anger, resentment with shoes of bitterness and revenge. God didn’t make us this way, sin did. God tells us to take off the human clothes and put on the spiritual clothes that He provides when we become His. “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience (Colossians 3:12). We have a choice each day, to put on our old nature clothes or put on the spiritual clothing created by God. Old nature clothing is more comfortable, like those jeans you’ve had for 10 years. They are worn in and so easy to move around with. The new clothes take some getting used to. They need breaking in which takes time and patience. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” (2 Corinthians 5:17). Those new pair of shoes you wear for a few hours each day create blisters. After a few weeks, those blistered places become calloused and you are walking comfortably in those new pair of shoes. God’s clothing goes against the world. While wearing them, you will face people and situations that cause blisters: hurt feelings, rejection, anger, resentment… But know that as you continue wearing God’s clothing, you will develop accessories that hide the blisters: love, joy, peace, patience, humility… In everything you do, think about what you are wearing before you respond and react. As Christians, we are to clothe ourselves with the spirit and God provides armor for us to put on as well to fight the elements of this world. Ephesians 6:10 gives us a closet of armor to put on each day: belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, shoes of the gospel, shield of faith, helmet of salvation and sword of the spirit.
So what are you wearing today?? If you have the joy of the Lord in your heart and peace that passes all understanding, you have your Jesus clothes on! YEA!! If you are worried, fretful, anxious and depressed about your situation or what may or may not happen. Take those clothes OFF immediately! Pray, ask God to clothe you with the clothes that can change your life and bring glory to Him.
