Being put in jail or even arrested is a humiliating experience. You were caught breaking the law and now have to be punished. What makes you do things against the law? Sin. Why do some folks want to be so vocal and outgoing about their sin? We all sin but not all get arrested. Sin mixed with the right personality, the ability to not care about self or others, and means to self-destruct create an arrested person. God loves this person! “But God demonstrates his own loves for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). He also loves the one who lies, cheats, bullies, and the one who is just depressed about life and doesn’t have anyone to turn to. He loves us all even with our sinful nature. He knows we struggle. He knows we don’t feel like we belong, in fact, Jesus felt the same way when He lived on the earth. He didn’t belong, He was considered a weirdo because He spoke to God His Father like it was real. We would probably admit someone like that to therapy today.
Because of sin, we are all in bondage, jail, imprisoned in life. We cannot break out of this prison alone. We have to have bail, and the great news is that Jesus paid the bail to free us! Jesus paid it with His life. Money was not good enough for the world. Jesus had to take our place in jail, even accepting the death penalty. Yep! “You were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body” (1 Corinthians 6:20). Jesus died so we could get out of jail and be free. Are you thankful and grateful? Or do you still abuse your privilege as a freed citizen? Do you realize that you should be a slave to Jesus because He bought you! Because of His enormous crazy love for you, He doesn’t demand you to love Him or even appreciate what He did for you. He continues to whisper His love in your ear hoping that you will one day love Him back. “You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of men. Brothers, each man, as responsible God, should remain in the situation God called him to” (1 Corinthians 7:23). God has a purpose and plan for your life. Even you, who sins all the time. God wants what is best for you. He didn’t die for nothing, for worthless people, for certain ethnic groups, for only the educated. He died for YOU! You are the one He made a plan and purpose for. He paid your bail so you can be free and live life abundantly joyful knowing that God, the Creator of the Universe, meant for your life to mean something. Don’t waste it, not even a minute of your life!
“And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love (bailed out), may have power, together with all the saints (find a church with godly people), to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love (crazy love) of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge (we cannot comprehend it, so stop trying), that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine (God’s plan for you is amazing), according to his power that is at work within us (accept Jesus’s bail for your life), to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations (you will make a difference for all those that follow your example: whether good or bad), forever and ever! Amen” (Ephesians 3:18-21).
