Technology allows us to talk to folks any time we want, while we drive, walk, shop, lounge, work and vacation. We don’t have the patients to wait until we get home to make a call. We can find people anywhere and at any time. It is very convenient. Occasionally, depending on where you are and what you are doing, some calls don’t get through or they even drop in mid-call. It is very aggravating to pour your heart out or give detailed instructions only to know that no one is listening on the other end.
I imagine God feels this way often with me. He is talking and giving me detailed information, while my attention has already been diverted away from the conversation. Having teenagers, I experience the one-way conversation with them wearing headphones. Listening is an activity. It requires intentional effort and usually a response and/or action. God loves us, and gives us directions for life.
