Jesus came to earth not as the King He is, but a lowly, hated servant. Hated only because He told the truth and Pharisees didn’t want to hear it. Truth is painful at times and makes us “change” our way of life or way of thinking. In this evil world, Jesus and His followers have been, are, and will always be attacked and beat down and killed. This is a part of our reality. Christ died for us while we were still worthless sinners (Romans 5:8). He loves us. He died so we will not have to fear death anymore. We will forever live with Him in Glory.
Knowing that Jesus suffered tremendously while on earth gives us comfort. He also tells us that He is with us to the end. He never leaves us nor forsakes us. Many missionaries have survived torture and imprisonment because of the fact that Jesus is with them and gives their soul comfort. Paul experienced this while in prison where he wrote the book of Philippians.
